SIGMA-IoT Takes the Stage in Riga
On May 9th, 2025, during the 2nd Open Call Networking Event in Riga, Latvia, Dr. Vrahinopoulos presented the SIGMA-IoT experiment, one of the flagship pilots of the SUSTAIN project under the EU’s EUROCLUSTERS initiative. The event brought together researchers, and industry stakeholders from across Europe to explore breakthrough solutions in smart buildings and sustainable construction.
In his presentation, Dr. Vrahinopoulos introduced the SIGMA-IoT platform—an intelligent system that uses IoT sensors, AI forecasting, and environmental data to optimize energy consumption in office buildings. The solution tackles a critical challenge in modern facilities: the inefficiency of static HVAC and lighting schedules. By adapting to occupancy patterns and real-time weather conditions, SIGMA-IoT enables smarter, greener, and more responsive building operations.
The presentation emphasized not only the technical architecture but also the importance of user adoption, minimal installation requirements, and alignment with EU energy directives. The Riga event provided a unique opportunity to engage with partners, share insights, and highlight how SIGMA-IoT contributes to the digital and ecological transition of Europe’s built environment.
